Georgia Republican who campaigned for governor in 'deportation bus' reports to jail
Georgia state senator Michael Williams reported to jail Wednesday after being indicted on charges that include insurance fraud, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
The Forsyth County Republican drew national attention this year when his campaign to become the Peach State's next governor included a campaign tour on a "deportation bus." Williams – who called himself the "most outspoken anti-illegal candidate in Georgia's history" in a campaign ad – traveled the state in the gray bus, which featured messages reading, "Follow me to Mexico" and "Danger: Murderers, rapists, kidnappers, child molesters and other criminals on board."
The controversial campaign gained attention but not votes. Williams finished fifth out of five candidates, winning just percent of voters in the Republican primary.

GOP 'deportation bus' candidate in Georgia pleads guilty
GAINESVILLE, Ga. — A former Georgia gubernatorial candidate who campaigned in a "deportation bus" has pleaded guilty to falsely reporting that computer servers were stolen from his office.
Michael Williams, a Republican ex-state senator, was indicted in December in Hall County, northeast of Atlanta, on charges of insurance fraud and lying to investigators.
District Attorney Lee Darragh told news outlets Williams pleaded guilty under Georgia's First Offender Act. He was sentenced last week to serve four years of probation, hours of community service and a $5, fine.
The charges stem from an investigation after Williams reported a burglary in May
Williams finished last in the five-man Republican primary. He campaigned on loyalty to President Donald Trump and publicity stunts, including the "deportation bus," symbolically targeting people in the country illegally.

He said he plans to implement a " (g) deportation plan," referring to the federal program that would allow local and state authorities to enforce immigration law in their jurisdictions.
"We're not just going to track them and watch them roam around the state," Williams said. "We're going to put them on this bus and send them home."
The bus itself is painted gray with white lettering. Among the words painted on the bus: "Danger! Murderers, rapists, ki
