April Leonardo da Vinci is born in Vinci, a small town in Tuscany, Italy. He is the illegitimate son of Ser Piero da Vinci, a notary, and a peasant woman named Caterina.
At age 15, Leonardo becomes an apprentice to Andrea del Verrocchio, a leading artist of Florence. He learns painting, sculpture, and mechanical arts.
Leonardo is accepted into the Guild of Saint Luke, a guild for artists and doctors of medicine, but he continues to work with Verrocchio for a while.

The timeline displays all Da Vinci’s paintings, many of which he worked on for years, such as the Mona Lisa. Da Vinci was not only a painter but also a humanist thinker and engineer. The timeline lists all his writings, scientific discoveries and his many mechanical inventions, such as fun flying devices. Some of Da Vinci’s unfinished sketches are included as well.

In addition, the timeline also shows the list of patrons he worked for, the places he lived, and the wars and conflicts that happened in Italy during Leonardo’s lifetime that affected his work and personal life directly.

Leonardo lived a life filled with inspiration, but also with unhappiness. Throughout his years he went through moments of despair, but he also found glory when he was welcomed in Florence as a great painter of the day. While only a few of Leonardo's works remain intact for us to see, and while his life was long lived and sometimes filled with sadness, we are blessed with the gift of the beautiful pieces that Da Vinci left behind. The few paintings of Da Vinci's as well as the many notebooks are scattered in different places throughout the world, one of his notebooks is even owned by software tycoon, Bill Gates. While we can't all buy the actual pieces, we can still all take in a little bit of Da Vinci through art prints of his works. Many Da Vinci art prints and posters exist, and we can purchase the masterful The Last Supper, or The Mona Lisa to bring a little bit of Da Vinci into our own homes.
