Hreinn Friðfinnsson (b. , d. , Bær í Dölum, Iceland) lived and worked in Amsterdam, The Netherlands from He graduated from the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts in Reykjavik in and co-founded the influential Icelandic artist group SÚM in Friðfinnsson has exhibited widely internationally, including major solo shows at the Malmö Konsthall in Malmö, Sweden ( and ); Le Magasin-Centre national d’art contemporain in Grenoble, France (); the National Gallery in Reykjavik, Iceland (); the Kyoto Art Center, Japan (); the Domaine de Kerguéhennec in Bignan, France (); the Serpentine Gallery, London, United Kingdom (); the Centre d’art Contemporain in Geneva, Switzerland (); the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin, Germany (); and the Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) at Miami Dade College in Miami, Florida, United States (). In , Friðfinnsson represented Iceland at the Venice Biennale, and in , he received the prestigious Ars Fennica Prize.

As one of Iceland’s leading artists, Hreinn Friðfinnsson (born in , Bær Dölum, IS) is celebrated for his inspirational and poetic use of everyday objects. His vocabulary, underscored by a delicate sense of humour, playfully implements storytelling and perceptual ploys. Friðfinnsson’s work could be characterised as conceptual, it investigates our understanding of time and the world around us. He is truly a natural storyteller; hence most of his works often ask for a narrative, or the fabrication of a story, even if there isn’t one. Icelandic artist Hreinn Friðfinnsson has died aged

Working continuously for over seven decades in performance, sculpture, and installation, in a manner that would be eventually labelled lyrical conceptualism, Friðfinnsson often made use of mundane materials, like paper, cardboard, or mirrors, to create playful situations that would quietly shift perceptions and expectations.

Living in Amsterdam since , he had recent large scale exhibitions at the Museum of Art and Design, Miami, and a retrospective at the Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève and KW Berlin, taking part in the Skulptur Projekt Münster.
