How It Tackles Ted Bundy’s Story: One of the earliest movies about Ted Bundy, The Deliberate Stranger is a two-part miniseries that aired in and featured Mark Harmon as Ted Bundy. Harmon manages to be charming, but facial ticks hint at Bundy's dark side. Although no graphic violence was allowed due to TV guidelines, Harmon's reenactment of the serial killings at a Florida sorority house is truly chilling. Harmon also captures Bundy's arrogance and need for attention after being apprehended.
How Accurate Is It? Bundy's last attorney, Polly Nelson, referred to The Deliberate Stranger as “stunningly accurate” in her book Defending the Devil. The film was based on a nonfiction book by the same name written by Seattle Times reporter Richard W. Larsen who covered Bundy's killings, trial, and execution. The film does leave out all of Bundy's early life and initial killings and opens with the murder of Georgann Hawkins.

A family member of Ted Bundy is sharing some of the serial killer’s correspondence from prison in an upcoming book. Bundy’s death row letters to his cousin Edna Cowell Martin are featured in Dark Tide: Growing Up with Ted Bundy, available July The book examines Martin’s relationship with Bundy and reaction to his gruesome crimes.
Speaking to the Daily Mail ahead of the book’s release, Martin shared excerpts from a series of letters she exchanged with Bundy in After one message in which Martin accused the killer of covering up his crimes and encouraged him to share his motives, Bundy responded by maintaining his innocence. “I won’t disregard your accusations completely. I will say this much, I have not killed anyone,” Bundy wrote. “When you’re ready for a calm, compassionate and loving dialogue on these things, write me. I’ll be ready.” It wasn’t until just before his January execution that the killer confessed to 30 murders.
