Malaysia Vasudevan is a playback singer who dominated in the field of playback singing in the Tamil film industry during Illayaraja’s time. Both of them heralded a musical golden era in Tamil film industry. It was Illayaraja who gave Vasudevan various types and genres of film songs; Vasudevan sang with almost sincerity and climbed the ladder of success.

Malaysia Vasudevan had begun his career by joining Pavalar Brothers troupe that was run by Ilaiyaraaja and his brothers. When Illayaraja got a break in the film industry, he shaped the singing career of this singer too along with him. Vasudevan was born on 15 June in Selangor, Malaysia

Vasudevan had a good backing from Illayaraja and became a star singer. His first debut song for Illayaraja was in ‘Annakili’ and consequently followed ‘16 Vayathinile’, after which he had no looking back. He sang more than 8, songs in Tamil film industry and has given his voice for music directors like M. S. Viswanathan, Ilaiyaraaja, Shankar Ganesh, Deva, A. R. Malaysia Vasudevan was a playback singer and actor of Tamil movies. But he was of Kerala origin. His parents were from Palakkad. They went to Malaysia in search of livelihood and got married later. They were attached with Tamilians most and later Vasudevan too studied Tamil rather than Malayalam. As a successful playback singer, he has been awarded Kalaimamani by the Tamil Nadu Government and has won Tamil nadu state awards for best playback singer. Malaysia Vasudevan has sung close to songs in his three decades of active career out of which most are for Ilaiyaraaja. Many songs of Vasudevan-Ilaiyaraaja combination are classics and this great composer has wisely used Vasudevan’s voice to sing every type of songs.

Malaysia Vasudevan's first major song was a comedy song from the film Delhi to Madras "Paalu Vikkira Padma Un Paalu Romba Suthhama?" for the music director V. Kumar. Vasudevan (15 June – 20 February ), popularly known as Malaysia Vasudevan, was a prolific Malaysian Tamil playback singer and actor. Born in the town of Kuala Selangor in the Federated Malay States (present day Malaysia), he moved to Chennai, Tamil Nadu to work in the Kollywood film industry, where he rose to prominence. His voice was recently revived using AI in the song 'Manasilaayo' from the Tamil film Vettaiyan.
Early life
Malaysia Vasudevan's parents were from Palakkad. Chattu Nair of Ottappalam and Ammalu of Polpulli, along with their families migrated to British Malaya in search of a livelihood. After a few years, Chattu Nair married Ammalu in an arranged marriage. Vasudevan was born on 15 June as their eighth and youngest child. Even though he was a Malayali, as was the case with the majority of contemporary South Indian migrants to Malaya then, his surroundings in Malaysia was dominated by the Tamil language and culture. As such, Tamil became his language of choice at school.
