Named by Time magazine as one of the most important innovators of the 21st century, Tariq Ramadan occupies a unique place among leading Islamic thinkers. Representing a new generation of Islamic reformers, Dr. Ramadan advocates the exploration and application of Islamic traditions and values within a modern pluralistic context, calling on Western Muslims to embrace Western culture rather than reject it. A Swiss national, he is a well-respected professor of philosophy at the College of Geneva and Professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Fribourg. In fall Ramadan was appointed Henry R. Luce Professor of Religion, Conflict and Peacebuilding at the Kroc Institute at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, USA.

Ramadan has written more than twenty books exploring the difficult issues of reinterpretation and reform within Islam itself and between the Islamic world and its neighbors around the globe. Tariq Ramadan is professor of contemporary Islamic studies at Oxford University and also teaches at the Oxford Faculty of Theology. In addition, he holds scholarly positions with the University of Malaysia Perlis, Doshisha University, and the Faculty of Islamic Studies and the Research Centre of Islamic Legislation and Ethics in Qatar. He is president of the European Muslim Network. Ramadan advocates a self-confident Islam that both engages and critiques Western ideas and institutions. His works include Islam and the Arab Awakening (), The Quest for Meaning, Developing a Philosophy of Pluralism (), and Western Muslims and the Future of Islam (). He is the grandson of Muslim Brotherhood founder Hassan al-Banna, though his ideas do not always align with those of his grandfather's organization. A Swiss citizen of Egyptian descent, Ramadan holds degrees in philosophy and French literature and a Ph.D. in Arabic and Islamic studies from the University of Geneva. He has also studied at al-Azhar University.

Professor Tariq Ramadan holds an MA in Philosophy and French literature and PhD in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the University of Geneva. In Cairo, Egypt he received one-on-one intensive training in classic Islamic scholarship from Al-Azhar University scholars. He is considered one of the most influential Muslim intellectuals of the 21st Century. He is the author of The Quest for Meaning: Developing a Philosophy of Pluralism, Radical Reform: Islamic Ethics and Liberation, In the Footsteps of the Prophet: Lessons from the Life of Muhammad, and Western Muslims and the Future of Islam.

Tariq Ramadan is Professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies at the Oxford University (Oriental Institute, St Antony’s College) and also teaches at the Oxford Faculty of Theology. He is Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, (Qatar) and the University of Malaysia Perlis; Senior Research Fellow at Doshisha University (Kyoto, Japan) and Director of the Research Centre of Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE) (Doha, Qatar).

He holds an MA in Philosophy and French literature and PhD in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the University of Geneva. In Cairo, Egypt he received one-on-one intensive training in classic Islamic scholarship from Al-Azhar University scholars (ijazat in seven disciplines). Through his writings and lectures Tariq has contributed to the debate on the issues of Muslims in the West and Islamic revival in the Muslim world. He is active at academic and grassroots levels lecturing extensively throughout the world on theology, ethics, social justice, ecology and interfaith as well intercultural dialogue. He is President of the European think tank: European Muslim Network (EMN) in Brussels.
