Cylk Cozart is a person who many people have seen on television and movie screens, but in the s, he was a young boy with big dreams named Calvin living in the Karns community. Cylk started by telling us where his life started; “I was adopted to a family in Karns. My mom was 16, and she could not keep me the way she was living her lifestyle. Mr. and Mrs. Goss took me in, and I didnt have to change my name or anything because they made sure I knew who my mother and father was. By the time I got to Karns, I was a 3rd grader; it was an all-black school called Solway. There were probably kids because that was when everything was so separated. It was blacks are here, whites are there for whatever reason, and at that time we didnt realize that was something that was wrong, it was just school; I mean, you didn’t see anybody else.” Cylk did follow his dreams, despite the hardships. As he grew up, Cylk found a huge influence in pop culture. Cylk said: “ I used to watch television until it was time to go to bed; I would watch anything. I loved the old TV shows, I would picture myself in the scenario and I would act out the scenes. I wouldn’t do i

Knoxville actors Cylk Cozart ("Conspiracy Theory," "White Men Can't Jump") and Nikki Estridge ("Law and Order: SVU," "House of Cards") will spend the holidays like many fathers and daughters will. They will gather with family and celebrate.
This year will be the first time they will spend the holidays together. For more than 30 years, Cozart and Estridge didn't know each other and didn't know they were related.
A few months ago, they found each other and have been making up for lost time since then.
An intuition
While growing up in Knoxville, Estridge said, she always felt something missing in her life. It was a deep void she couldn't explain. She said she also had a darker skin tone than the rest of her family and athleticism, which also set her apart. Still, as a child, she didn't think twice about these feelings.

Hollywood glamour and hometown genuineness rubbed shoulders Thursday night at theKnoxville Area Urban League's Equal Opportunity Awards Gala.
Two actors ? special guest presenter Louis Gossett Jr. and honoree Cylk Cozart ? brought their star power to the Knoxville Convention Center, as did singing group En Vogue, which performed at the event.
But there was plenty of buzz over Martin Luther King III, eldest son of the late Martin Luther King Jr., who also was on hand as a special guest presenter.
The people at the sold-out gala ranged from young professionals to heads of corporations, plus several politicos. Among them were U.S. Rep. John J. Duncan Jr., state Sen. Becky Duncan Massey, Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and former Knoxville Mayor Daniel Brown.
For friends Nikki Miller and Brieta Rorex, the biggest celebrity at the event was the Urban League itself.
"The Urban League does quite a bit for our community, and I'm a great big supporter of that," said Miller, who works at the Boys and Girls Clubs. "They reach out to so many people in our community who can't
